Wood Boiler Fact Sheet

Things to consider when making an outdoor purchase:

  1. How thick is the steel on the boiler.  It is pretty simple knock on it you can tell thick versus thin.  Thicker is better than thin metal it will last longer and easier to repair if there is a problem.  Why would a company not tell you the actual thickness they sell and only say thick metal?
  2. Components on the boiler controls, blowers, insulation what do they cost and how hard are they to replace if they ever fail?  There is not a part on our boiler that cannot be replaced in about 15 minutes or less.  Most all our parts are available to our customers at under $125 for the replacement part.
  3. Does the boiler come standard with an induction blower system?  This is a simple question and with the technology available today they should but not all do.   Some sell this as an upgrade.  Blowers control the burn speed, keep the temperature more constant, and provide even burns.
  4. Can you adjust the blower?  Being able to adjust a blower is like being able to control the throttle on a car sometimes you need more and other times less being able to adjust it you can tune your boiler to your demand.
  5. Is the boiler welded inside and out?  At first you think what does this mean?  Well some companies only weld the water side of the burn chamber in the event there ever was a leak how would your repair?  If it is welded inside and out you can repair onsite simple and easy with a portable welder if not you need to return to factory for plasma cutting and repair.
  6. Can you see the water jacket?  We have nothing to hide, when you build a superior product you want your customers to be able to see the inside of the product.  Other companies make it impossible to see.
  7. Snow on the roof any well insulated boiler will have snow on it all winter.  We have R-30 on the roof and sides of the boilers they are well insulated.
  8. Insulated Pipe we stock and personally use the zline pipe it works well, amazingly well.  We have had many customers leave it unburied all winter long and claim they have no heat loss or even snow melting.  The product has a white shell and you can see a damaged spot with a simple eye test.  If you want or feel you need additional insulation we offer maxx-r product as an upgrade.
  9. Door size opens the entire size of the boiler?  This is very useful when loading large or odd shaped logs.
  10. Is the door water circulated? Most companies do not do this it adds complexity in the design and building process but why give up 20% of your heat transfer surface?
  11. Talk with the designers, users, and builder of Wood Boiler LLC. About other items such as water inlet and outlet, pump locations, calculating your wood usage, how you should size a boiler to a house and other interesting topics.
